Push Notifications

Push Notifications are an incredibly powerful feature.

Red Goose apps integrate OneSignal's Push SDK into your app to support the full range of what you might want to do with push notifications. Deploy a feature-rich, enterprise-class push notification service with a very good free-tier offering. Learn more at onesignal.com.

  1. Send push notifications to individual devices, groups of devices, or all devices at once
  2. Send via the OneSignal.com dashboard, or programmatically through their API
  3. Optionally specify a targetUrl to open within your app when the notification is clicked

Support for custom notification sounds, badging, collapsing notifications, and more.

Setup OneSignal

The first step is to sign up and generate an iOS app_id on onesignal.com. It is free. The instructions to generate an app_id are described in the step-1 of their documentation.

Once you have your onesignal app_id, you have to paste it on the following RGConfiguration file of your Red Goose iOS or Android app, like so:

Open your project in xcode.

35. // Go to the file `RGConfiguration.swift`, line #37
36. // Signup on https://onesignal.com to grab and set your app_id below.
37. public static let ONESIGNAL_APP_ID = "xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx"

That's it. Push notifications are now enabled on your app. 🎸

Setup a Push Certificate

An iOS Push Certificate is required to deliver notifications to your app users. This step is mandatory for you to complete before notifications can be delivered.

Refer the Onesignal documentation to generate one for your app.

Sending a push notification

To send a push notification you must login to the Onesignal Dashboard. Here you'll see a list of all your apps.

  1. Select your Red Goose iOS app on the dashboard and go to its "Messages" tab.
  2. Start a new notification using the "New Push" button.

This is the place where you'll be sending all your push notifications from. Keep the onesignal official documentation handy for regular updates on sending push notifications to your users.

You are all set. 🤙🏻
